Theme Weekends 2009
May 30th – June 1st: Memorial Weekend featuring the reunion of the
Club Blazer Team.
Come celebrate the beginning of summer vacation with your pals Walker
Wolf, Harley Bear, Dray Dragonfly, Haley Hawk, Philbert Squirrel and
Hoot Owl.
Meet our Head Ranger and learn about how his role is like Walker
Wolf’s. Take a hike, collect pine cones, name different insects and
collect special rocks for painting.
Special “Kids in the Pool” day is Sunday with hamburgers and hot dogs
for dinner on the Pool Lodge Patio.
June 6th: We have designated June as the month of Walker Wolf &
Harley Bear because of their leadership, strength and the Four R’s:
Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, and Re-think ). Can you be a leader of a
nature walk, express not only your physical strength but your mind
strength or show our recreation team how you can make a craft from
household throw-a-ways?

June 13th: Let’s make a special gift for Father’s Day by collecting and
reusing empty paper towel rolls or soda cans from home. Perhaps you
would rather create a special pet rock using items found on forest floor.
Either way, your dad will love it.

June 20th: The Silly Olympics return for the test of strength and
leadership. How far can you run with a potato under your chin or with
an egg on a spoon? The games are lots of fun and the best part of it
all – Everyone is a Winner!

June 27th: Can you survive in a Jungle? Well, our Jungle Book weekend
will prepare you. Learn to live in a reduced environment like the
players on “Survivor” then huts made from sticks and straw and stoves
made from rocks and sand. See if you can start a small flame by
rubbing two sticks together. Let the games begins!
July 4th: July 6th: Celebrate Fourth of July with Dray Dragonfly and
Haley Hawk. As Dray reminds us to “save the rays” and conserve
energy, sit back, relax and let the firework show in Cottonwood light
your way to a fun filled evening. Bring your sun block and join in the
pool games before heading into town for the biggest FREE celebration in
Arizona. Huge waterslides (they had 10 last year), jump houses,
mazes, pie eating contest, watermelon, hot dogs and hamburgers and
lots more for your enjoyment. Bring the whole family – it’s all FREE.
Don’t get too tired as we want you full of energy for the games and
hikes planned for Sunday the 5th with our famous BBQ Rib dinner to
follow.
July 11th: “It’s a Bugs Life” Haley Hawk teaches us to think first, act
second. As we identify and collect bugs we learn what their role in life
is and which ones we shouldn’t touch at all. Taking care of the
environment, per Dray, is an important factor in a bug’s life.
Afterwards, we’ll kick back, watch the movie and snack on popcorn.

July 18th: Enjoy the rays during “Life’s a Beach” weekend as we build
sand castles, create beautiful sand art and then cool down with water
fun games such as slides, squirt guns and water balloons.
July 25th: “Birthday Time”- this day is set aside to give thanks and
enjoy every birthday of the year. Make a special gift during craft time
to share with a friend while feasting on cake and ice cream. Let’s not
forget to sing Happy Birthday.
August 1st: This is the month of Philbert Squirrel and Hoot Owl.
Share with everyone how you act responsibly and make wise choices like
Philbert and write a poem on preparations for your future. Perhaps you
are more like Hoot and can share your tales of why you shouldn’t feed
the wildlife.

August 8th: “It’s up to you, Charlie Brown”. Baseball, free throw
basketball, football and jelly beans – these are all of the Peanuts
favorites. Do you have a Snoopy look-a-like for a pet? Brings him or
her to the games and enter the contest of “Best of the Show”. We’ll
supply the jelly beans and peanut butter sandwiches.

August 15th: “Music for Mother Nature.” Let’s talk music. A running
stream, wind through the trees, songs of bird, etc are forms of music.
We will be making our own instruments by collecting recyclable items
such as large or small plastic bottles (empty), soft drink cans (empty)
empty egg cartons, sticks, macaroni and whatever else we can find.
Afterwards, we’ll put on a concert for your folks. Refreshments will be
served.
August 29th – 31st: Labor Day Weekend
It’s back to school time and time for all good things to come to an end.
If you missed any of our special weekends, don’t worry as we will be
reviewing everything we’ve learned this summer. As we gather together
for a special “Send off Celebration” to the Club Blazer Team, we will
re-create all the fun stuff we did. Water games, baseball, hikes,
crafts, sand art, rock decorating and snacks. Who knows, maybe you’ll
go back to school a lot smarter (and happier) than when you left the
year before.
We look forward to seeing you in the Verde Valley – home of the Club
Blazer Team!
